It's always nice to see women portrayed with dignity and respect and some contemporary photorealism getting a bit of institutional love, too.
Just thought I'd do a shout out to Andre Bronninmann (artist) and Te Rawanake Robinson-Coles, Inahaa Te Urutahi Waikerepuru and Ria Wihapi-Waikerepuru for this image, Sisters, which won some sort of award recently (hate awards but whatever). Moko are the facial tattoos historically practiced by Maori in New Zealand, male and female, and the tradition is continued today by peeps as personal, tribal, aesthetic and political expression. The style is increasingly imitated in the overseas but poorly understood. Kuia are lady elders.
