If you've ever picked up a camera with the intention of taking a portrait, you'll know how difficult that is to achieve. The interpersonal dynamics, the subject's projection, technical crap, lack of harmonic- you name it, it can go wrong and just nosedive into pointless mediocrity so easily. I think this image's strength comes from comprehensive observation; the oblique gaze, opposing fore and background values and that intrinsic textural wealth that seems to reside in the redhead. Toulouse-Lautrec called them 'the blondes of the gods'. And I concur. Comments are closed.
